INT. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – DAWN

Block locks the door.

EXT TURLEY – DAWN

The Sheriff hurries after the boy. A rooster crows. 

 INT. SHERIFF’S JAIL – DAWN

Jake is picking the lock on the jail cell with his belt buckle. 

JAKE

Blind Pete used to do this all by… touch. 

The lock clicks. Jake chuckles. 

Deputy Block hears the jail cell door creak. He draws his pistol and walks into the jail room.

BLOCK
Alright, where is he?

Paden stands against the wall and shrugs. 

PADEN

He left

BLOCK

Like hell! This is the only way out!

PADEN

I woke up and he was gone.

Block looks at the bed frame.

BLOCK

Alright kid, come on out. I know you’re in there.

Block looks at Paden and waves with his gun.

BLOCK

You – come over here.
